Race Rules

The Rosebud Run Sleddog Classic is run under the Rosebud Run Race Rules. The Rosebud Run Race Rules contain many deviations from the ISDRA Speed Race Rules to address the trail and operations specific to the Rosebud Run Sleddog Society and the Rosebud Run Sleddog Races. A complete set of the Rosebud Run Race Rules and the ISDRA Speed Race Rules are available in portable document format (pdf) through the links below. The Rosebud Run Sleddog Classic Race Rules will take precedence at all races hosted by the Rosebud Run Sleddog Society.

Race Rule Changes for 2012

There are a number of changes to the Rosebud Run Race Rules for the 2012 race season. Aspects of the races affected by these Race Rule changes are:

  • teams arriving late to the race site on race days will be directed to park in the "Late Arrival" parking area,
  • vaccination or titre test documentation requirement,
  • size of teams for all race classes,
  • purebred registration documents requirement,
  • the time penalty assessed to mushers receiving assistance on the trail, and
  • the engagement in commercial activities at the race site.
Please see the Rosebud Run Race Rules for complete details.

Purebred Class Eligibility

All competitors entering in any of the Rosebud Run Sleddog Classic sprint race purebred classes will be required to provide the Rosebud Run Sleddog Society with photocopies of registration papers for all dogs making up their purebred team. Accepted registration papers are those issued by an animal registry recognized under the Animal Pedigree Act of Canada, namely:

  • the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC), or
  • the American Kennel Club (AKC), or
  • the European Kennel Club (UKC), or
  • the National Registry from the country of origin.
Teams containing one or more dogs not registered with an accepted animal registry (listed above) must enter in the appropriate "Open" class. Teams containing one or more dogs for which photocopies of the dogs' registration papers issued by an accepted animal registry (listed above) are not provided to the Rosebud Run Sleddog Society must also enter in the appropriate "Open" class. Random spot checks on dogs entered in a purebred class at the Rosebud Run Sleddog Classic sprint races may be conducted during the races. Competitors unable to verify the identification of a dog entered in a purebred class at the Rosebud Run Sleddog Classic sprint races will be disqualified from all purebred classes he/she has entered teams in.

For the purposes of the Rosebud Run Sleddog Classic sprint races, photocopies of registration papers for all dogs entered in a purebred class should either be presented to the Rosebud Run Sleddog Society at Musher Check-in or faxed to 403-335-2366 prior to the close of race registration namely, the Wednesday before the races.

Vaccination Requirement

All dogs entering onto the Rosebud Run Sleddog race site are required to be up-to-date and current with distemper, rabies and parvovirus vaccines or have been proven to be immune to these three (3) viruses by virtue of a titre test dated no earlier than 3 years prior entering onto the site. Prior to entering onto the Rosebud Run race site, photocopies of vaccination or titre test documentation must be supplied to the Rosebud Run Sleddog Society for all dogs entering the site. Accepted documents include:

  • vaccine health records issued by a Veterinarian, or
  • self-maintained health record logs including the affixed vaccine label, or
  • titre test for each of the three viruses dated no earlier and 3 years prior to entering onto the site.
This is a standing requirement, not linked to any specific race or activity host by the Rosebud Run Sleddog Society at the race site.

This requirement has been adopted to protect you, your dogs, other users of the race trail and spectators attending Rosebud Run events.

Registration

All competitors wishing to participate in the Rosebud Run Sleddog Classic sprint races are encouraged to register on-line prior to 6 PM of the Wednesday before the races (see Registration). The Rosebud Run Sleddog Society will accept registrations up until the close of the Musher Check-in on the Friday before the races however, competitors registering after 6 PM of the Wednesday before the races will be charged a late entry penalty. The late entry penalty will be 50% of the regular entry fee for each class entered. No registration will be accepted after the Musher Check-in closes. See the Schedule page for dates and times.

Mandatory Check-in

Registered participants must check-in at the Musher Check-in and attend the Mushers' Meeting on the Friday night before the races. Check-in and the Mushers' Meeting will be held at the Elks Hall, 2010 - 20th Street, in downtown Didsbury for 2011. See the Schedule page for dates and times.

If a registered participant has road trouble or an emergency or other extenuating circumstance enroute to the Musher Check-in and will be unable to get to the Musher Check-in before it closes, the registered participant must notify the Rosebud Run Sleddog Society via telephone (403-559-8373 on Musher Check-in night) that the participant will be late and the reason for being late. The Rosebud Run Sleddog Society will evaluate the situation and make a ruling on the eligibility of the registered participant. If the registered participant is ruled to still be eligible to race, the Rosebud Run Sleddog Society will make arrangements with the participant for an alternate Check-in and orientation. Failure of a registered participant to check-in at the Musher Check-in or to notify the Rosebud Run Sleddog Society of being delayed will result in disqualification, no exceptions.
